SEO Resource Newsletter -
January 2005 A

Hi Everyone!

Hope your holidays went well for you and lets pray the new year
brings great business success!

Here’s some Q &A to get us started.

Hi Kevin,

I’ve been a linking fool lately, trading links with everybody I
can but now I’m not sure this is a good idea.

-Matt

Hi Matt,

It’s a good idea if you trade links with websites inside your
own industry. Incoming links from outside your industry won’t
hurt you since you have no control over who links to you. But
you do have control over who you choose to link to.

For instance, if you have a business software website and you
link to a bunch of pharmaceutical websites, this won’t help and
it will probably hurt your search engine rankings. So, stay
within your industry and you will be fine.

-Kevin

Hey Kevin,

In my title tag, I have the company name upfront and my main
keywords after the company name. I think my results could be
better.

-Mork

Hey Mork,

Many business owners want to put their company name right up
front for branding reasons. The problem is that the title tag is
the most important tag on your webpage and if you don’t put your
main keywords right up front, you’ll hurt your rankings. I
recommend putting your company name at the end of the title tag
to improve rankings.

months.

Bill Gates talks about how the PC will become the new media
center in every household, replacing the television set. Gates
states, “For us, the key convergence product is the Media Center
PC, which is the idea of that single remote control giving you
the best TV experience, music and photos but also the full power
of the PC, and we've got lots of partners who keep signing on to
Media Center and doing neat things.” More info:

Tip of the Week

After you have done quite a bit of reciprocal linking, you’ll
notice that many of your links on other sites will disappear for
various reasons. In order to stay on top of this, do a Google
search for “reciprocal link checker” as there are many tools
that will help you determine if your link is still on your
partner’s website.

Hoping you have a prosperous new year and see you next
newsletter!
