SEO Copywriting

 
 

SEO copywriting is both an art and a science. At SEO Firm, we do copywriting for both the visitor and search engines, simultaneously. Advertising Copywriting

Advertising copywriting is different from SEO copywriting in that, writing ad copy is meant to appeal to visitors using the A.I.D.A formula. The A.I.D.A formula means Grab Attention, create Interest, build Desire and bring them to Action. This type of copywriting blends powerful, motivating and persuasive words in order to inspire the visitor into some form of action, like the buying of a product or service.

Search Engine Copywriting

SEO copywriting typically is the rewriting of current ad copy with relevant keywords in mind in order to appeal to the search engine community. SEO copywriting can also be the act of writing a page from scratch as well. Because targeting the right keywords is the most important part of search engine optimization, it is also the most important part of SEO copywriting.

Keyword Research

Keyword research must be performed prior to SEO copywriting, otherwise how would one know the correct keywords to optimize a web page around. For more on keyword research see: Keyword Research. Once research has been performed and a specific keyword has been chosen for a page it is important to perform SEO copywriting on that page in order target that page for the search engine community. Targeting a page will include writing SEO copy in the head tag, meta tags, link text and body text.

Head Tag

Arguably, the most important tag on a web page besides the title tag is the head tag. The search engines give much weight to the head tag, so writing keyword-rich, descriptive head tag is important. In SEO copywriting the main keyword in the head tag should be the same as the main keyword in the meta tags, link text, body text and title tag.

Meta Tags

The meta tags, while not as important as they used to be in SEO terms are still valuable and need to be optimized by the SEO copywriter. See Meta Tag Optimization for more information. The meta tags consist of the keywords meta tag and the description meta tag. The keywords meta tag needs to have the page's main keyword right up front. The description tag, if written properly, will also have the main keyword up front and will also be a complete sentence or include several sentences.

Link Text

Link text comes in three varieties: internal, outbound and inbound. Internal text links are links that point to other pages within the website. Ideally, this text will contain main keywords. Outbound links are links that point from your website to another website. It is less important to have main keywords in this link text. Inbound links are links that point from other sites to your website. It is very important to have your main keywords associated with the inbound links.

Body Text

Along with the head tag, having keyword-rich, content-rich body text is the most important part of SEO copywriting. At SEO Firm, SEO copywriting focuses on both keyword-rich and content-rich text. The keyword-rich text is for the search engines. The content-rich text is for the visitors. Both are equally important. Keyword-rich text brings customers to the site and content-rich text converts the traffic into sales. When writing keyword-rich and content-rich text it is important not to use any spammy techniques since these will turn off both the visitors and the search engine robots. Some search engines will drop a site altogether for spamming. If SEO copywriting is done correctly, the customer will be motivated to buy and the search engine will have the information it needs to place a web page into the top rankings.
